The redwood symbol of the Chianti Montalbano Within the large forested field, surrounded by a greenery pathway to Villa Bibbiani, there is a special and beautiful specimen, our giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron gigante). Our sequoia stands out on the turf along with a domestic pine, some Lebanese cedars and a Caucasian fir. It is not the only sequoia present in the park of Villa Bibbiani, in the romantic oriental park, there is also a Sequoia sempervirens. From a botanical point of view, it is one of the most important part in the garden where Cosimo Ridolfi planted rare and exotic species.
Sequoias, coming from California, a plant with tall and massive trunks have always symbolized the strength and power of nature. They are colossal and monumental, and for this reason, they have been chosen as a symbol for the first wine bottled by the Villa Bibbiani cellar: the Chianti Montalbano DOCG. The lanceolate leaf of the giant sequoia was placed on the wine label with its short and spiky clustered needles, similar to juniper needles. All of the labelling choices of Villa Bibbiani’s wines is related to its the botanical origins in its garden.
